When I first met with Lora and Adam about creating their Macgregor Downs Country Club wedding photos, we talked a lot about their trip to Scotland where they got engaged. MacGregor Downs Club has a beautiful stone fireplace that really carried them back to their trip, and they knew it was the place. The rest fell into place easily- the deep emerald green color, the flowers, even the weather- overcast and cool was reminiscent of Scotland.
MacGregor downs is a wonderful place for wedding that’s intimate and elegant, with an old world feel, with all the modern amenities you could want at hand. Situated in Cary, NC, the courses run through stately houses, and create a quiet stillness. Lora had several great moments to herself and with her bridesmaids, and I know that the stillness helped her to center herself on her wedding day.
Serenity might be a better word for stillness. But whatever the word, having a few moments of that on your wedding day is priceless. In the last month, I’ve photographed 5 weddings, and there came a point in each wedding, just after the Bride had put on her dress, or even just before, where I asked people to step out, or took the bride to a quiet place where we made some really beautiful and simple images. Last week was in just the light of the window, last month I took a bride into a grove of trees. Each time I asked her to take a few moments, and think about whatever she wanted to think about. It gave her some centeredness, some clarity, and few minutes without questions, or hustle, or last minute decisions. Every bride takes a few moments to take a deep breath.
Whatever your wedding day holds, you just have one goal: at the end of the day, be married to the person you love. That’s it. So on your wedding day, take a few minutes to yourself, to center, take a deep breath, look out the window or sit by yourself with a glass of wine or champagne. You’ll be glad you did.
