I love October, and I love Duke University, and I love engagement sessions. Naturally, James and Michelle’s October Duke University Engagement Session was a trifecta of awesomeness. It was the perfect start to engagement season.
James and Michelle came from Miami, where they live and work to homecoming at Duke, and wanted to have an their engagement session on Campus. So we met up and walked around and chatted about all sort of things from life to campus food services, to life after graduation. It was a great session and I loved getting to know them.
Their choice to have their session at Duke was a great one. It’s a place they know and love, and can always come back to. They’ll always have their memories of meeting at Duke and falling in love. It’s where they got their start, where their story began. I always tell couples to have their session in a place they know and love well, so they can have more memories there. I love hearing them talk about places they frequented, things that happened to them in a certain spot. It speaks well of the life they’ve lived together so far.
The thing about places, is that it can have a significant emotional hold on you. You can go to an emotionally significant place and while you may not remember one specific memory you had there, you’ll feel the emotional connection to it. You know that you changed there as a person, and that you’re connected to that place. In that sense, choosing emotionally significant places for you engagement session makes a good session even better.
I’m mostly just rambling now, so I’ll stop here. But I love this session, and James and Michelle are headed toward a great life together. I’m so glad I met them! Enjoy their session.
